What is a Hero?
A hero, is someone who inspires you.
It is often assumed that Hero’s save people, change lives and are much braver than the average person.
Personally, this belief in a hero saving me, is a little too… easy…
In a story, ok, that’s fine, that’s not real.
But in my life, it’s hard to understand how a hero can change my life, without first impacting my inner hero and changing something within me.
External Heroes
I believe there is a distinction between the people I look at outside, in everyday life, who I see as a hero.
Calling them external heroes simply in order to clarify that there are different kinds of heroes.
These heroes have certain traits, wisdoms and characteristics to share with others that impact them.
When we’re young, it’s easier to look up to someone, and idolize them as your childhood hero.
But what does it really mean?
It means that this person inspires you, as a child, to be braver, be stronger, behave better, and be kinder.
A hero cannot save you, only the inspiration gained through acknowledging a hero, can save, inspire, and fuel, the inner hero.
Inner Hero
The self is a complicated thing, it exists, but within the limits of human comprehension, and is limited to only me who knows the depths of myself.
An inner hero is created at a young age, and can be built up, to be a resilient hero, or due to life events, pushed down, and become an inner villain.
There is no way that I can know what your inner hero is like, unless it is verbalized, or brought to life, and shown to me.
Who is MY Hero?
I want to first, rephrase this question;
Who is MY greatest inspiration?
Hahah, I’ll be called selfish if I say myself right?
Humor is hard to show in text format, but now for the actual answer.
My greatest inspiration is my aunt.
My family is pretty big, and I gain inspiration from all of my family members, extended and secondary.
Primarily, though, I gain inspiration from this one aunt because of her endless support, mentorship, guidance, and forgiveness.
She has helped me write job application cover letters, award nominations for other mentors, and continues to encourage me to be my philosophical, authentic, and true self.
One of the moments I gained the most inspiration from her, and this moment sticks with me because of how she gained something from me.
Not only was she able to understand my philosophical theories, but she seemed fascinated by the perspective I had on this topic.
She captures the essence of a hero, because she has traits that I value.
The moment;
Walking through the sand, on a beautiful warm, sunny day. The ocean water crashing beside us, wind blowing through our hair. Discussing the possibility of aliens existing, and whether we are the aliens, or if we could possibly perceive of another kind of alien that we haven’t already made up in a movie, or some fictional writing. The continual discussion of this as a valuable topic, understanding on both sides of the heaviness, and vastness of the questions. It’s a philosopher’s walk.
Remember…
The point of showing the internal hero and the external hero is to reinforce the value of mutuality in understanding who our hero is and why that person is our hero.
My aunt believes in my mind, and that is what fuels me, the knowing that she sees my potential.
Of course, my parents believe in me as well, but coming from someone who is not constantly around me, to me gives a different kind of value.
Blessings,
With love and light,
Stay true stay weird.
