Woooooow! It’s already the last day of the year!?! How did that happen? I’m SO excited for the upcoming year, and I can’t wait to share my top 5 ways to start the new year off right with you!
#1 Reflect On Accomplishments
Grab your notebook! We’re actioning our accomplishments by writing them down and celebrating even the smallest wins!
Here’s my list!
- Ran two 10k races
- Started blogging more than once a month, woooooo!
- Jumped into business with an incredible company called Arbonne.
- Spent time creating real, authentic, and HEALTHY relationships with new friends, mentors, and coaches.
- Visualized myself as strong, confident, independent, and capable, and managed to bring all of it to life.
- MOVED OUT!
Everything on this list is a big win! But even so, these events were not without their difficulties.
#2 Identify Areas of Improvement and Create Actions to Implement Daily
My second method for starting the year off right, is to identify areas of improvement, and then create actions to implement daily.
Something I heard repeatedly in 2019 is;
10 mins a day, everyday is enough to create a habit that lasts a lifetime.
The step of identifying areas of improvement is simple, it’s not always easy to see the blind spots in our life, but once they are acknowledged, it’s all about creating a daily habit to strengthen that weak spot.
Don’t fret, weaknesses are an indication of humanity, and that there is a strength to go alongside the weakness.
Weakness #1 – Sometimes my anxiety controls my thoughts
Solution – daily running, elliptical, or bike for 45 mins a day.
Benefit – weight loss, mental clarity, distraction from anxiety.
Ok! So I did a couple of things here.
Instead of writing a goal based on weight loss, I made a point of identifying the underlying issue causing the weight gain in the first place, anxiety.
I know from experience over the past 10 years that I CAN LOSE WEIGHT, but the habit does not stick because I am not committed to WHY I want to lose it, and what I am gaining from losing it.
What my fears are, even after identifying this weakness.
Great! I’ve done this action setting and I know I can run everyday for 45 minutes because I have been running semi-daily for 30 minutes in the last two months.
BUT, my fear still says, You really think you can do it everyday? What if you don’t feel like it?
Crush this fear by creating your WHY.
I run everyday because I have struggled for the past 16 years with anxiety that controls me and I am taking back the control by exercising and moving my body. This leads to being better at soccer, feeling better mentally, and building my own inner confidence because I have pushed the fear aside and conquered my MIND!
Sounds intense, and it is because fear is intense! But my desire to conquer anxiety is more intense, and thus wins the battle.
#3 Organize Yourself for the Year Ahead
I LOVE ORGANIZATION AND CREATING SYSTEMS. omg, It’s fun to be super passionate about organization because then people look at you and wonder how you keep everything organized.
STORY TIME!
When I was in middle school, I carried this book around with me, I loved it so much, the cover ripped off and I read the thing from cover to cover 3 times.
Organizing from the Inside Out For Teenagers
Organizing from the inside out
This book taught me everything I needed to know about keeping an organized life around me. It included lists, and patterns, and categories! My mind loves nothing more than seeing in patterns!
I know the overwhelming feeling of attempting to organize your room, your laptop, don’t even talk to me about my photos! It can be overwhelming!
This tip isn’t to say take 3 days of stress and organize everything around you.
Instead, to prepare for the year by creating a folder for new photos, a folder for expenses, and setting yourself up for organizational success by creating the systems you will need right now!
#4 Assign A Word To This Year
My business coach suggested this in our meeting a couple days ago, and since then I have been hearing a particular word from friends, from myself and seeing it everywhere.
Number 4 of my top 5 ways to start the new year off right is to create and assigning a word to the year. It can be anything you feel called to use.
Clarity is mine because I am hoping and praying that my vision heals to a perfect 20/20 XD. (It’s a joke because my eyes are really bad).
Clarity
What this word means to me, in my life will be tremendously different than what it could mean for you.
Assigning a word to this year is going to help start the new year right because it gives you a sense of knowing.
Everytime there is an opportunity in front of me, I ask myself, does this bring me clarity?
If it doesn’t or if it leaves me feeling confused, then I knowingly say no.
If it brings me a sense of clarity, a sense of you are in the right direction, then saying yes is easy, simple, and calm.
So this sounds way more simple, than you probably think it is while reading, so I’ll explain how I can sense when I’m on the right path.
Finding connection to myself by Surround myself with powerful influences of connection
I’m on instagram ALL THE TIME! It’s my favourite app of all of them! But I am very careful about who I follow and what videos I watch.
Top connection guides to follow:
- Gabrielle Bernstein
- Mastin Kipp
- Marie Foleo
- Deepak Chopra
- Eckhart Tolle
- Wayne Dyer (and his daughters)
- Reiki Channels
- Activation Vibration
- Source Messages
Gabrielle Bernstein‘s book Super Attractor is incredible! For the past two weeks I have been listening to her read her own book on the audible app.
She has meditations and resources for her readers to connect with their guides, and their own inner knowing which is how I have strengthened the connection to myself.
Mastin Kipp offers a different perspective on trauma in the body, he talks about all the neuroscience and the body’s repossess to trauma and how to reprogram your central nervous system in order to heal from trauma. His books are on my list to read this year.
I’ll write another post discussing each of the other philosophers I have mentioned and why to put them in your life.
#5 GET EXCITED!
You’ve read my top ways to start the new year off right, and method number 5 is my favourite!
Get HYPED UP and EXCITED!!!
Reading this post is getting you one step closer to taking action and creating the best year of your life.
I hope that my top 5 ways to start the new year right helped you find some clarity toward the preparation for 2020.
Remember…
I’m talking to the girl who is in her mid twenties, looking for some extra reasons to try harder this year. Some extra push to conquer your fear of success and get the dream job, the boyfriend, and the kickass social life.
These tips may not resonate with everyone, but they are a summary of the wisdom I hold for my 26 years of life, and my full decade as a philosopher.
Let me know with a comment what word you choose for 2020!!
So excited to hear responses!
Blessings! Stay true, stay weird.
