What can we learn from our current reality about freedom?
There is something happening in the world right now.
Every country in the world, all of the people on the planet are affected by a unified, non-human threat. Everyone is terrified of it!
But what is really happening is something in our minds, thoughts, and global unified consciousness.
We are being forced to stay home from usual social gatherings, and it can feel like the world is on pause. Some may even compare their houses, or apartments to a jail cell, finally feeling the pains of depression and social isolation.
Sometimes the thing we avoid the most is sitting with ourselves and asking these questions. It’s a time to ask what is important to you the most; to let go of the past and set sights on a bright new future.
What is freedom?
Philosophers and great political minds have asked this question for centuries.
It is debated if freedom is an abstract concept created for humans in the realm of metaphysical being, or if it is our innate ability to be conscious and free in ourselves to make choices.
Where freedom becomes convoluted and difficult, occurs when it is combined with society,
John Locke, one of the great British philosophers, argued for the social contract.
But what does this have to do with freedom, and COVID-19? Also how is this relevant to personal philosophy?
Right now, both forms of freedom are being imposed upon which means, we as individuals must begin asking ourselves what freedom really means as a personal philosophy, and how to continue to hold onto it while having to adjust to the new world.
In other words, there are two types of freedom, personal and collective freedoms.
1. Personal Freedom
I believe freedom is inherent and intrinsic, an idea that cannot be materialized as it is within all of us, and then I remember that I am confined to the bounds of society, and cannot live without social connections, community or others.
I chose this quote because it calls for a perspective shift; a shift from lack to abundance.
Is COVID-19 offering you a chance to count your blessings or wallow in self-pity?
If the premise of personal freedom as intrinsic is valid, then it follows that your freedom is also in your ability to choose a perspective.
It’s tough to always be positive, and always choose love when the world is in crisis.
How we choose to react will define the future as hope, freedom and joy.
My truth is that I feel scared, about what’s to come, about the collective future and my own personal freedoms.
However, that won’t stop me from running toward my goals and dreams. I want to make an impact on the world, now is the best time to start.
More people have time freedom
More people are enjoying family moments
More people are reconnecting with themselves and healing
2. Collective Freedom
In August of 2019, I made a choice, I used my personal freedom to join a company that is on a mission to make an impact on the world as well.
Last week I hoped to be in Las Vegas for the first time, attending a conference about the success found within a company that empowers individuals to be part of something bigger.
Because of COVID-19 the conference was done virtually! How amazing is that?!
I had completely disconnected from Arbonne over a GIGANTIC fear of being judged.
Being able to work on myself because of time freedom, means I healed that fear and tuned in to the Arbonne conference.
I tuned in to stories of getting up from crisis, from conquering fears, personal health issues, and financial loss.
Having these stories in front of me, while also begin able to acknowledge the 11 year old who is terrified of what other people think of her, means I have given myself freedom to join a collective that fits with my life, values, and dreams.
In the wise words of Arbonne’s CEO, Jean-David Schwartz
Arbonne aims to be the best company FOR the world, not in the world.
Jean-David Schwartz April 17 2020
These words are powerful! Arbonne sees the bigger picture. They see the need for clean, vegan, holistic products.
Collective freedom allows me to choose this collective, as well as other collectives, such as University of Toronto, Carleton, and a person who was born in Toronto Canada.
Remember…
Freedom is up to the individual innately, and as a result, there are people who judge, criticize and create false beliefs through gossip.
The most important thing is to empower yourself to choose better.
There is always a positive aspect. There is always another way of looking at things.
Maybe the grass in your garden needs tending to.
With love and light,
