I call these authors Modern Philosophers because they are! I was talking about philosophy to someone while waiting for an interview today. She asked me what I write about on my blog. I laughed and said,
Philosophy, which is anything I decide to write about.
Following your passions is a winding road.
It’s a challenging road.
The road less travelled, leads to greater knowledge.
This post is about three books that I have read over the past two years.
These books are categorized as self help which I believe is the highest category of book, as it’s philosophy within personal development.
Conscious improvement is always valuable, no matter how it came about.
1. Dr. Wayne Dyer
If you haven’t heard about Wayne Dyer, you’re missing out. His incredible insights are invaluable in what they offer the reader.
Dr. Dyer has passed on from this world, but he left a legacy of youtube meditations, videos, and books that continue to inspire, motivate and heal people everyday.
Dr. Wayne Dyer is someone who shines light on finding your way back to your true being. His books are easy to read and you don’t need to understand complex concepts to get what he is saying.
My favourite book is Inspiration: Your Ultimate Calling
When he was decided on the name for this book, he couldn’t decide between calling and purpose.
He tells the story of how he chose calling, which is when he was pondering which one of these two names was better suited and then the phone rang.
The message was clear.
Little stories like this one, are the meat of his books. Fun, easy to read, and insightful.
2. Gabrielle Bernstein
For anyone who struggles with finding love in this world, you need to read The Universe Has Your Back right now.
Bernstein teaches mainly from the text called A Course in Miracles, which was written in 1976, and is called a curriculum for those seeking spiritual transformation.
Bernstein’s book offers a perspective shift to channel fear into love. She includes things to do in order to communicate with the universe and access the support of your angels and guardians.
If you are not a spiritual person, I highly recommend reading this anyways! Just for fun, have a laugh, maybe the universe will surprise you, and your angels will guide you to a life you never could have imagined without spirituality.
Spirituality, to me, does not require belief in other beings, what it does require is faith in something larger than yourself.
Faith in the Universe, God, a Higher Power, whatever you name it, as long as you place faith in something greater than yourself, you can access the gifts of spirituality.
3. Eckhart Tolle
Here is a complex read for all my academic friends who like those complex topics.
Tolle is a Harvard educated scholar who writes The Power of Now and A New Earth; Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose.
Tolle’s A New Earth; Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose is the first book I picked up by him.
They say that when you’re ready to hear the message from this book, it will appear in front of you. That’s what happened to me.
My mom had a copy of this book, it’s bright orange, hard to miss. She took it with her on vacation during the summer of 2018, and while she was away, I was looking on the bookshelf in my basement, where we have a mash of books. Low and behold, I found this book. Then I wonder;
How am I finding this, if mom has it with her on vacation?
Apparently, we have two copies. I still believe that it was meant for me to find.
Summary…
Each author has a slightly different message through similar philosophies.
Dr. Dyer draws us back to Spirit by gracefully convincing the reader of our likeness to God, Universe, Source, and shows us how to get back to our true spirit and find our Soul’s purpose, passion, and Ultimate Calling.
Bernstein inspires us through her personal experience with meditation and calls the reader to shift from a place of fearfulness, to the teacher of love. Her personal experiences of thoughts and acknowledgements of fear turning into love and synchronicities that flow from the universe are too coincidental to deny! (I don’t believe in coincidences).
Tolle teaches us that thinking differently is not a bad thing, but an incredible power. He. focuses on living in the present moment, and urging the reader to acknowledge their ego, and then take control of it.
I hope you get to read one of these three incredibly life changing books, and leave a comment below. If you know who these authors are already, let me know! You’re my people 🙂 ! If you’re not spiritual and don’t believe, feel free to skip the comments and move on to something that you do believe in.
Blessings, with love and light.
Stay true, stay weird.
