In chapter 5, Katie realizes the mystery woman is someone she knew a long time ago.
Her darkness rages and she becomes angry, Harvey pushes her against the wall and she runs out of his apartment in a fit of anger.
Recap…
We didn’t break up because of her, but we should have.
I always knew there was something more between them.
I guess I have to move on with no best friend and no boyfriend.
Do I have to?
The emptiness of my life swallowed me whole as I jogged out of Harvey’s building.
Where do I even go?
What do I do now?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Running, breathing, faster, harder, keep running, keep going…
My head starts to hurt, my eyes go spotty and I can’t remember what happened next.
What? Where… where am I?
You were running and you fainted, what’s your name?
My name… who are you…?
I’m a doctor, but we’re not at the hospital, you’re on my couch. Call me Nate.
Ok… Nate… why am I on your couch?
You know, I’m sure you’ll remember soon enough. Have some water and get some rest for now.
He handed me a glass of water.
It’s hard to think straight, but he seemed nice.
His bright green eyes and chocolate brown hair made me feel something tingly, or maybe that was the head injury…
Nate… do you… do you think I’m pretty?
Absolutely, you’re different compared to most women I’ve known.
I tried to keep my eyes open, but I couldn’t.
Collapsing into a deep sleep, on this stranger’s couch.
It’s just a dream I told myself, and went to sleep.
Just…. a …. dream…
The sound of a dog barking woke me up.
My head pounding as if I’d consumed a whole bottle of vodka, and then some.
Then I smelled bacon, eggs, and sausages.
This memory of my grandma’s cooking came rushing back.
She’d make this for me after a fight with my mom.
Good morning gorgeous! How did you sleep Katie?
Could’ve been better, honestly.
Well, your head is pretty banged up, but nothing a couple pain killers can’t fix.
So, I have to go home. I have to check on my dog… How long have I been gone? What day is it?
Hahaha, your dog is fine! Leo is a good boy, he’s being taken care of. It’s Tuesday
Well, I still have to go. I don’t know who you are, and I can’t stay here.
I got up, and ran out the door.
Ok, how do I get to my house from here?
I hope he’s not following me…
Turning around to check, I realized there was something familiar about that man… Nate…
Could he have been the man of my dreams?
