10 Truths About Me!
1. My two front teeth are fake
When I was nine, I fell off a T-bar, got stuck in the hill with my skis in the snow. When I looked for my instructor, I turned around and a t-bar hit me in the face! I remember holding my teeth in my hand, covered in blood, and chucking them cause of how gross it was!
I regret that choice LOL
After this, I spent more time than necessary in dentists offices. I developed anxiety around my teeth because of the pressure of this accident.
2. I wear contact lenses and hate my glasses
I hate wearing glasses! I couldn’t see properly until I was in JK, and my parents only thought to get my eyes tested when I was learning to read and kept putting the cards super close to my face!
This heightened my other senses, and I believe this is how I became so interested in disability, and became an empath.
I’ve always felt different because of my glasses, and I know that other kids with high prescriptions, like mine (+8.00 and +8.50) can relate to the experience of thick lenses.
I have SUCH a strong prescription that my contacts have to be a lower prescription in order to keep my far sight and near sight equal. I keep asking for bifocal lenses, and my doctors keep saying that’s not for you…
Not sure why!
There’s also a prism in my glasses in order to correct my eyes for focusing. In University, I wore reading glasses on top of my contacts for school work.
Sometimes I write in my journal without glasses and my writing is the same.
3. I attended 2 high schools
I went to a public co-ed school in Lawrence Park Toronto for two years. I did not enjoy the socials of the school, so I switched in grade 11 to an all girls, catholic high school in downtown Toronto.
Turns out the social elements of all girls schools are more complex than co-ed schools.
I am glad that I switched schools, as this school changed my perspective of life, and I developed a love for multiculturalism, philosophy and faith that I wouldn’t have been able to find elsewhere.
4. I love dogs more than people
One of my aunts bred Wheaten Terrier puppies when I was growing up.
Every time my family would visit, there was usually a litter of puppies to frolic with.
Instead of playing video games with my siblings and cousins, I would spend time with the puppies and take in as much love as I possibly could.
This led me to an undying love of dogs, that sometimes masked as an anxiety tool.
It’s a big part of me. I asked for a dog as soon as I could grasp the concept. My family dog, Frankie, was more my moms and my sisters than mine, and I always resented that fact. I wanted my own dog to love, and cuddle and be with.
When my family dog passed away, in January of 2017, during my last semester of grad school, I got my first puppy.
My dog Leo is the cutest little fluffer in the world! He’s a Pomeranian, but I’m convinced he’s part Chihuahua with all his mannerisms and the way he plays.
Every time I see a dog, without hesitation, I will start talking to the dog and often ignore the owner.
Dogs represent joy and love to me, and I hope that eventually I love people, and myself, as much as I love dogs.
5. I made my grade 8 graduation dress
Oh this is a good one. When I was in elementary school, I went to sewing classes, and took pottery classes. I am naturally creative and needed outlets for this creativity and I will forever be thankful that my mom saw this and opened my mind to these types of art.
In grade 7 & 8, I took sewing lessons. The middle school in my area is only two grades, so for the project in my sewing class in grade 8, I bought a dress pattern, modified it to my liking, and made the dress I wore to my graduation.
I remember being told that the dress was from Le Chateau and there was no way that I made it. Ha ha, must’ve been a nice dress then!
After this, my mom found a fashion design camp at the Design Exchange in Toronto, and signed me up. I know more about fashion than I admit, and my favourite store is Artizia, where simplicity meets style.
6. Ideas come naturally to me
I am into horoscopes and astrology, and as a Virgo, through and through, it is interesting to use Co-Star daily, and begin to understand more thoroughly the different houses, and the signs within those houses.
It’s so interesting to me, that I could write a whole post just on the astrology of myself.
Instead, I will just tell you, I am a virgo, and love to be practical, aim for perfection and kind.
Deeper so, my signs are mostly air signs, which means that I love to be in the dream state of ideas, and actually doing things, and producing tangible things, is difficult for me.
In 3 of my houses, I am a libra. This explains my love of seeing other perspectives and points of view.
As a philosopher, I love to think, and ponder the big questions.
7. I went right from Undergrad to Grad school
I tend to resent this experience, and would often tell myself the story of “I missed out”.
As I’m writing this, and reflecting on it from a new perspective, I realize the value in spending 6 consecutive years in University.
My favourite courses in Undergrad were Contracts, Policing & Social Surveillance and Robot Ethics.
8. I’m straight, with a twist
Ahhhh, this one is fun!
I’m not gay, but I think women are beautiful. Sexuality is a fluid identity. During University I clung to my female friends, and abused my body with men.
This led to the constant questioning of how I feel about relationships, where romance is concerned.
In this moment, I love both bodies for the wisdom that they hold within them.
I see myself with a man in the future, and having a lovely marriage with a couple younglings to entertain us, and mold into beautiful human beings.
I’ve always been an ally of the LGBTQ+ community, starting in my first high school. There was one day in support of this community where I carried a white board around with me, and didn’t use my voice in order to bring awareness to the bullying those who identify face in high school.
I remember being flabbergasted when two of my friends kissed in front of me.
Seeing this when I was young, and participating in this day of support, allowed me to become more open to seeing the issues this minority group face on a daily basis.
9. Elephants are my spirit animal
If I were to show you my room, the most common item would be my collection of elephant related things.
I have a pink elephant mug, the trunk is the handle. I love it because it makes me happy.
Elephants represent strength, wisdom, and true loyalty. These are characteristics I identify with before I started to become aware of my love of elephants.
10. I have 5 tattoos
You read that right!
I have 5 tattoos. They’re not visible which was intentional.
My first tattoo is script that I made up on the spot when a friend came to visit me. She kept pushing me to get one, and I finally gave in and did it!
This led to inspiration for more tattoos.
Within a couple months, I got two more.
One of them is now covered with something else! Haha, that’s a good story for another time.
When my dog died, I got one to remember her.
My fifth one, is more visible, and represents my soul, to me, and my faith. I drew it and wouldn’t change anything about any of my tattoos.
Remember…
A month ago, I would have said “I don’t know what to write about myself, I’m not interesting!”
It takes time and healing to get to a place of radical self love, and I’m proud of where I’ve been, and excited for who I am becoming.
Thanks for reading!
Stay true, stay weird~~
